Quill Roster started with one frustrating event. Sam Devine spent weeks coordinating the Flourish Investment Forum, managing 50+ speakers across spreadsheets, email threads, shared folders, and half a dozen disconnected tools. Every data change meant updating something in five places. The run of show was built the night before. The speaker bios were in a Google Doc nobody could find.
He built Quill Roster so that would never happen again. Not to him, and not to the thousands of associations, nonprofits, and event professionals across Minnesota who deal with the same thing every time they run a conference or an event series.

Minnesota isn't just the Land of 10,000 Lakes. It is one of the most nonprofit-dense states in the country, with nearly 44,000 registered organizations, and a philanthropic culture that runs deep. Associations, healthcare organizations, community foundations, professional networks, advocacy groups. They are everywhere here, and most of them are running events with small staffs and limited time.
That is exactly who Quill Roster was built for. We are a small Minnesota company, not a venture-backed corporate platform with a support ticket queue, building tools for the organizations that make this state what it is. When you call us, you are talking to the people behind it.
The founder
Sam Devine
Co-founder & CEO
Sam spent sixteen years at Camp Chippewa for Boys in the Chippewa National Forest, starting as a counselor and rising to assistant director, leading wilderness canoe expeditions into the Canadian subarctic, including multi-week trips to Hudson Bay. Those years taught him the things no classroom does: patience, self-reliance, and how to lead people through hard situations.
He went on to run Kinetic Design Build, a Minneapolis boutique design and construction firm, for nearly two decades. In 2013 he founded EarthEd, a nonprofit dedicated to environmental education and wilderness experience, through which he still leads canoe trips into the backcountry today.
The through-line across all of it (wilderness guiding, construction, digital media, event production) is a knack for taking complicated situations with a lot of moving parts and making them work. Quill Roster is what happens when that knack meets a problem worth solving. Sam is based in Minnetonka, Minnesota.
